Cyclone Alert: Heavy Rainfall Alert in these states, Issued Red Alert

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert (indicating rainfall of more than 20 cm in 24 hours) in Idukki and Palakkad on Wednesday and Thursday at isolated places in Pathanantitta and Idukki districts.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain, thunder, lightning and gale-force winds in Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Telangana till May 23. Meanwhile, Kerala has been receiving heavy rains for the past few days. The state government has urged residents, especially those living in hilly and coastal areas, to be vigilant.

Several parts of Thiruvananthapuram city and its suburbs experienced flooding, with houses and shops inundated in the southern district after heavy rains on the night of May 18. With favourable conditions for the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rains for the state in the next three days.

Orange alert (up to 20 cm in 24 hours) has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram on Wednesday and Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Thursday.
