125 Passengers tests positive for Covid-19 In Air India flight Arrival

As many as 125 passengers of a Air India flight from Italy have tested Covid-19 positive in Amritsar in Punjab. The passengers tested positive after they arrived in Amritsar, VK Seth, Airport Director, said. There were 179 passengers on the Italy-Amritsar Air India flight.

There has been a huge spurt in Covid cases across the country. The country today reported over 90,000 new cases a steep 65 per cent jump – with a surge in Omicron cases.

India recorded 90,928 new cases of Covid-19 overnight to take the total to 35.11 million, said the health ministry on Wednesday, marking the biggest rise in daily infections since June 11 last year. Deaths increased by 325 to reach a total of 482,876.

Loosening border rules introduced to slow the spread of omicron will bring some relief to carriers after air travel was stymied during the year-end holiday period. While governments have introduced a slew of restrictions, evidence is growing that the now-dominant variant produces milder symptoms than earlier Covid waves.

“This will make travel much simpler and easier and means our customers can book and travel with confidence,” EasyJet Plc Chief Executive Officer Johan Lundgren said in a statement. He urged the government to go further and eliminate the post-arrival antigen test as well.
