Dubai: The UAE has announced the emergency approval of a COVID-19 vaccine for front line health workers.
The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has announced that The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has given the approval. Vaccinations will be permitted for frontline health workers – those at the highest risk of contracting the virus in an effort to protect them from dangers and improve safety.
The approval is ‘fully aligned with regulations and laws which permit accelerated authorization process’, the authorities say. Results from the first and second phases of the trials have been positive. The only side effects reported have been mild and as expected with any vaccine trial.
A total of 31,000 volunteers representing 125 nationalities have participated in the clinical trials so far.The vaccine has been tested on 1,000 volunteers suffering from chronic diseases, and no complications have been recorded.
Clinical trials for the third phase are continuing under the supervision of medical teams, following measures to control the quality, safety and efficiency of the vaccine.
