Heavy rain returned to Bengaluru late at night, leaving several parts of the city waterlogged and creating difficulties for commuters. The downpour continued for several hours in different parts of the city, with roads turning into temporary pools of water.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast further rainfall across parts of Karnataka. The latest weather outlook indicates that southern interior districts could receive rain and thunderstorms, while parts of coastal Karnataka may also see showers.
Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Mandya, Mysuru and Tumakuru have been placed under a yellow alert according to the forecast cited in the weather report. Residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious as thunderstorms and periods of heavier rain are possible.
Bengaluru experienced the most visible impact during the night. Several localities reported intense rainfall, particularly in the southern and central parts of the city. Areas including Majestic, KR Market, Chamrajpet, Shantinagar, Vijayanagar, Kengeri, Deepanjalinagar, Rajajinagar and Banashankari were among the places affected.
Rain was also reported around Madiwala, Konanakunte, Kumaraswamy Layout, RBI Layout, Girinagar, Richmond Circle, MG Road, Nandini Layout, Seshadripuram and Malleshwaram.
The heavy showers quickly affected road conditions. Water accumulated on several stretches, making it difficult for vehicles to move normally. The situation was particularly noticeable on roads where drainage capacity was unable to cope with the volume of rain arriving within a short period.
For office workers, students and other commuters, the timing of the rain added to the inconvenience. Overnight rainfall can leave water on roads well into the morning, especially when another spell arrives before previously accumulated water has drained away.
The weather system is not limited to Bengaluru. The IMD has indicated the possibility of rain across several parts of Karnataka, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in some northern interior districts. Winds in those areas may reach around 30 to 40 kilometres per hour during thunderstorms.
Coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada may receive isolated rain and thunderstorms. The latest coastal bulletin has also indicated the possibility of thunderstorms along parts of the Karnataka coast.
In northern Karnataka, districts such as Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal and Vijayapura are also expected to see changes in weather, including thunderstorms and gusty winds in some locations.
The current spell comes toward the end of the southwest monsoon season. Karnataka has experienced an uneven rainfall pattern this year, with the state recording significant rainfall deficits during parts of September. Earlier forecasts had also pointed to spells of heavy rain across different regions of the state.
For Bengaluru, the recent rain provides relief from dry conditions but also brings familiar urban problems. Waterlogging, slow traffic and difficulties on low lying roads can quickly follow intense showers, particularly when rainfall is concentrated over a short period.
The weather department’s district wise warning system continues to monitor conditions across Karnataka for September 29 and the following days.
Residents in the districts under yellow alert should keep track of updated weather information, especially if travelling during periods of thunderstorms. People in Bengaluru may also face delays if heavy showers return during peak traffic hours.
The latest forecast suggests that Karnataka’s weather will remain unsettled in several areas rather than becoming completely dry immediately. Rainfall is expected to remain concentrated in selected districts, while other parts of the state may experience comparatively dry conditions.
For Bengaluru residents, the immediate concern remains the possibility of another heavy spell and the resulting impact on roads and traffic. With the city already experiencing water accumulation in several areas after the overnight rain, further showers could create additional disruption.
