The Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has issued an important update for beneficiaries receiving free electricity under the Karnataka government’s Gruha Jyothi Scheme. Gruha Jyothi Scheme: Last Chance To Do e-KYC for Free Electricity.

If BESCOM officials visited your home for document verification but you were unavailable, there is no need to worry. The utility has extended the deadline for completing the verification process until October 31 and has urged beneficiaries to submit the required documents within the stipulated period.

As part of the verification drive for Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries, BESCOM officials have been conducting door-to-door inspections. However, in several cases, the verification could not be completed because homes were locked or the beneficiaries were not available.

To ensure that eligible consumers do not lose the scheme’s benefits, BESCOM has provided another opportunity to complete the verification process. The utility announced the extension through a message posted on its official social media platforms.

Beneficiaries who could not participate in the door-to-door verification must visit their nearest BESCOM subdivision office on or before October 31. They can complete the verification process by submitting the required documents in person.

Beneficiaries may be asked to produce documents such as their Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, and other supporting identification documents for verification. Consumers are advised to keep all the necessary documents ready before visiting the BESCOM office.

The additional opportunity has been provided to ensure that eligible beneficiaries are not deprived of the scheme’s benefits simply because they were unavailable when BESCOM officials visited their homes.

October 31 is last date to do e-KYC:

BESCOM is currently verifying the records of consumers receiving up to 200 units of free electricity every month under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme. Consumers who fail to complete the verification process within the stipulated deadline may have their cases reported to the state government.

Therefore, beneficiaries whose verification is still pending are advised not to wait until the last day. Instead, they should visit their nearest BESCOM subdivision office and complete the required formalities before October 31.

Meanwhile, around 1.3 lakh consumers across Karnataka have reportedly chosen to opt out of the Gruha Jyothi Scheme after declining to submit their personal documents. Of these, nearly 1.2 lakh consumers fall under the BESCOM jurisdiction, according to earlier reports.
