Film director Siddique suffers heart attack, condition critical

Malayalam Film director Siddique is reportedly in a critical condition. The director apparently suffered a heart attack around 3 pm on August 7, 2023. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. The filmmaker is currently receiving treatment at Kochi Amrita Hospital.

The director has been undergoing treatment for pneumonia and liver disease for some time. According to local news channels, Siddique is in a critical condition. As per the hospital authorities, the 63-year-old actor has been put on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine.

A medical board will be convened on Tuesday (8 August) morning to evaluate Siddique’s overall health status. It will also determine the further course of action. Director Siddique delivered several super hit films along with his friend Lal. The two are popular as “Siddique-Lal”.

The title card “Siddique-Lal” ensures a minimum guarantee for the theatre owners in Kerala. Siddique-Lal made their directorial debut with Ramji Rao Speaking (1989) starring Sai Kumar, Mukesh, Innocent, Vijayaraghavan, and Devan. It was a cult classic film in Malayalam.

This was followed by In Harihar Nagar (1990), Godfather (1991), Vietnam Colony (1992), and Kabooliwala (1993). The duo also wrote stories for flicks like Nadodikkattu (1997), Mannar Mathai Speaking (1998), and Bollywood film Hulchul (2004), to mention a few.

However, in 1993, they split up. Siddique went on to direct films, while Lal later tried his luck in acting. Siddique also directed the popular Bollywood movie Bodyguard (2011), a remake of his 2010 Malayalam movie of the same name. Mohanlal’s Big Brother (2020) is his last directorial venture.
