Schools in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada have been closed due to heavy rains as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been issued red alert for coastal Karnataka on June 27. And as per the order, holiday has been declared for Anganwadis, government, aided and private primary and high schools.

According to the latest updates from IMD, 35 kmph to 45 kmph with gusty winds of 55 kmph is likely to prevail over Karnataka coast. IMD has announced red alert for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka. In this background, the district administration has warned the fishermen not to go into the sea.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph over coastal Karnataka on Thursday. According to the India Meteorological Department, rain will continue in the coastal districts from June 28 to June 30. Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive heavy rains today on June 27. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, the second highest level of alert, for these areas.

In a press release on June 26, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana on June 27 and Andhra Pradesh and Kerala till June 28 and Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka till June 30. Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are more likely to receive heavy rain till June 30 and Maharashtra on June 27 and June 28.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh till June 30. Moreover, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab are expected to receive heavy rainfall in the next three days.
