Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao said that necessary precautionary measures have been taken to control Covid-19 in the state and 5000 tests are being conducted daily.

In a meeting with the senior officials of the Health Department at Arogya Soudha on Thursday December 29, he said that in view of the fact that 34 cases of Covid-19, a sub-strain of Omicron, JN.1, which is being reported in other states of the country, including Karnataka, necessary guidelines and circulars on precautionary measures to be followed and advisory letter has been issued.

Based on the available data, the JN.1 sub strain has high transmissibility. As a result, the elderly, those with low immunity and those suffering from other health problems are more likely to be admitted to the hospital, he said.

Currently in the state, 376 cases out of 464 active covid-19 cases till date: 26.12.2023 have been reported in Bengaluru city. And out of total 74 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 57 cases and 4 deaths out of 9 deaths, belong to Bangalore city. Out of the 34 JN.1 cases reported so far in the state, 21 JN.1 cases are from Bangalore city.

In view of all these factors, keeping in mind the crowded areas and indoor crowding during the upcoming New Year celebrations, all public should take precautionary measures of Covid-19 Appropriate Behavior (CAB) such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance, hand sanitizer. It has been instructed to create awareness about using it.

He said that seven days of paid leave will be given to the employees who have tested positive for Covid-19, and school holiday will be given to the children with cold and fever. Further, as already mentioned in the advisory letter to the public, it has been reiterated that people above 60 years of age, those with low immunity and those suffering from other health problems should wear masks.
