No re-exam for students: The Karnataka govt has said that students who missed their exams during the hijab protest before the interim order can get a chance to appear again as they might have boycotted the exam due to innocence or ignorance. This was debated in the assembly on Thursday, March 17. The Opposition Congress MLA Krishna Byre Gowda asked the government to give a second chance to students so that they could appear for exams. The govt replied that it’s unlikely they’ll consider it as exams can’t be randomly scheduled.

Even after the interim order was given, if children boycotted college exams as a Hijab protest, the government is unwilling to let them appear, said Karnataka Law minister Madhuswamy. The three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit, and Justice JM Khazi on February 10, passed an interim order.

The order stated that colleges in Karnataka can reopen but no student can wear anything religious till the matter is pending before the court. “As the government feels exams can’t be conducted at the whims and fancies of all and there’s a pattern for it. Question paper pattern, evaluation etc is a laborious process and can’t be done in random manner and time,” said the Karnataka law minister.
