The governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Tuesday advised people to be vigilant as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert in parts of the two states as the northeast monsoon intensified.

Kerala is likely to receive the heaviest rainfall with isolated heavy rains on Wednesday (November 22) and Thursday (November 23), while Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to receive heavy rains on Wednesday (November 22).

In response to the heavy rains, a holiday has been declared for schools in Puducherry and Karaikal. The Regional Meteorological Center in Chennai has forecast intermittent rain in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days. Light to moderate rain is expected in many parts of the state on Wednesday.

The latest bulletin from IMD indicates that Kerala has already experienced significant rainfall, with Pathanantitta and Thiruvananthapuram districts receiving 7 cm and 5 cm respectively. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Yanam.
