Maharashtra 15-days complete lockdown…! starts from April 14

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government may announce a 15-day lockdown starts from April 14 (Ambedkar Jayanti) to stem the concerning rise in coronavirus cases in the state.

The alarming rise in coronavirus cases in the state has pushed Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to hold a series of meetings with government officials, traders’ body, COVID task forces and others to discuss measures, including the imposition of a lockdown in the state, to break the virus chain. State’s health minister Rajesh Tope yesterday said that an appropriate decision regarding lockdown will be taken after April 14.

His comments came after a virtual meeting of the COVID-19 task force chaired by Thackeray. “Duration of the lockdown and how to handle its economic fallout was discussed during today’s meeting. The task force is of the view that the prevailing coronavirus situation in the state is such that a lockdown is required,” the minister said.

Thackeray is scheduled to hold a meeting with the finance and other state departments later today and discussion will also take place in the cabinet meeting later this week.  ‘You have to go through some hardships. The Chief Minister on Saturday hinted at the imposition of a strict lockdown in the state, saying people have to go through some hardships. He had chaired an all-party meeting held virtually to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the state.

Last Sunday, the state had announced a slew of fresh restrictions, including a weekend lockdown, night curfew and prohibitory orders for the day time till April 30.
