India’s star opening batsman Shubman Gill is suffering from severe dengue fever and will be ruled out of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 opener against Australia on Sunday (October 8). Along with this, another shocking news has come out. Shubman Gill is second rank in ICC ODI batsman ranking having scored 1230 runs in 20 ODIs this year and Gill’s absence will loom large for the team.

Meanwhile, Gill has been tested again for dengue and is reportedly unlikely to play in at least the first two matches. According to a report, the 24-year-old batsman Gill is likely to miss not only the India-Australia match in Chennai on Sunday but also the second match between India and Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi.

BCCI is yet to officially confirm Gill’s illness. However, head coach Rahul Dravid said that Gill was not ruled out with 36 hours left for the India-Australia match. However, as per media report Shubman Gill will not play in the first two matches. Shubman had high fever after landing in Chennai.
