Star Indian batter Virat Kohli broke legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara’s batting record against Australia on Saturday (March 11) during his unbeaten 59-run innings on the third day of the ongoing fourth Test in Ahmedabad. Indian superstar Virat Kohli impressed with his batting against Australia during the third day’s play of the ongoing fourth Test of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The right-handed batter was unbeaten at 59 runs from 128 balls at the close of the third day’s play. The half-century on Saturday (March 11) during the third session of play was Virat Kohli’s first Test fifty in 14 months, and he would now like to convert it into a big hundred and end the more than three-year wait for a triple-digit score in Test matches.

The former Indian skipper hasn’t scored a Test century since November 2019. During his stay at the crease on Saturday, Virat Kohli showed signs of getting back to his scoring ways, and he also leapfrogged West Indies former captain and legendary batter Brian Lara in an elite list. The Indian batter has surpassed Lara’s tally to become the second-leading run scorer in international matches against the Australian team.

Playing in his 89th match for India against Australia (all three formats combined), Virat Kohli broke Brian Lara’s record of 4714 runs against the five-time ODI World Cup winners. He now has 4729 runs against the Australian team. Brian Lara played 82 matches against Australia during his playing days and scored 4714 runs at an average of 45.76.
