Bengaluru police registered an FIR against Virat Kohli-owned One8 Commune Pub and several other establishments on MG Road for operating beyond scheduled hours. According to DCP Central, pubs were found to be open till 1.30 am. The permitted closing time is 1 p.m.

The police have taken this action following complaints about loud music being played in the area late at night. One8 Commune Pub, near Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, was one of the pubs that violated the rules. “We have received complaints about loud music being played at night. Investigation is on and further action will be taken accordingly,” said a police official.

Virat Kohli’s One8 commune has branches in other metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Kolkata. The Bangalore branch was launched in December last year. It is located on the sixth floor of Ratnam Complex.

Last year, a controversy erupted after a Tamil Nadu man described how he was denied entry to the Mumbai branch of One8 Commune for wearing a “veshti” in a video on X. The man said the treatment left him “disappointed” and “hurt”. The Virat-Kohli-owned restaurant chain was in the news last year after the Delhi High Court restrained One8 Commune from playing songs copyrighted by Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL).

A sub-inspector on night patrol received information that the pub was operating late and reached the spot at 1:20 a.m. and confirmed that it was still serving customers, a News 18 report said. As a result, an FIR was registered against the establishment.

Along with One8 Commune, police have taken action against three other pubs for similar violations. The crackdown reflects efforts by officials to enforce city regulations on hours of operation and noise levels.

Virat Kohli, co-owner of One8 Commune, has a special connection with Bangalore, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
