Cyclone Remal: As severe rains and gales lash Kolkata after severe cyclone ‘Remal’ made landfall, efforts are underway to mitigate its impact. Kolkata Municipality team and Kolkata Police Disaster Management Team are actively involved in clearing uprooted trees especially in Alipore area of the city. Uprooted trees will be cut and cleared so that roads can be opened. The situation will improve by morning. In the wake of the storm, the Police Special Unified Control Room has been monitoring the situation throughout the night. Municipal control room has also been opened.

The Indian Coast Guard is closely monitoring the landfall of Cyclone Remal with a Disaster Response Team, ships and hovercraft on standby to respond to the aftermath challenges at short notice. The Tripura government on Sunday issued a red alert in the four districts of South, Dhalai, Khowai and West as the severe storm Cyclone ‘Remal’ is likely to make landfall between the Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts by midnight.

“Severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ has crossed the coast of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal between Sagar Islands and Khepupara southwest of Mongla near latitude 21.75°N and longitude 89.2°E,” the IMD said in a post on X. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed a total of 14 teams in the state. These teams are ready to assist in rescue and relief operations.
