Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on December 13 announced that it has extended free Aadhaar update of documents by 3 months from 14 December, 2023 to 14 March, 2023.

The previous deadline for free Aadhaar renewal was December 14. Details sought include name, address, and details of relatives in case of marriage or death etc. These details can be updated free of charge on the UIDAI website or physically at Common Services Centers (CSC).

UIDAI had earlier said that the service is free only on the MyAadhaar portal and will continue to attract a fee of Rs 50 at physical Aadhaar centers.

UIDAI is encouraging residents to upload Proof of Identity and Proof of Address documents to revalidate their demographic details, especially if Aadhaar was issued more than 10 years ago and has never been updated.

Aadhaar Card Update: How to avail this free service

Residents can log in at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ using their Aadhaar number.

Select ‘Proceed to update address’ option.

One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile number

One just has to click on ‘Document Update’ and the resident’s existing details will be displayed.

Aadhaar holders need to verify the details, if found correct, click on the next hyperlink.

On the next screen, the resident has to select the identity proof and address documents from the dropdown list.

Upload the scanned copy of address proof and select ‘Submit’ button. Upload its copies to update his/her records.

An Aadhaar update request is received and a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) is generated.

How to Upload Address Proof for Free:

1) Visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

2) Log in and select “Name/Gender/Date of Birth and Address Update”.

3) Click on “Update Aadhaar Online”.

4) Select ‘Address’ from the demographic options list and click ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’.

5) Upload the scanned copy and enter the required demographic information.

6) Make payment of Rs 25. (Not required till 14 Dec 14)

7) A Service Request Number (SRN) will be generated to be saved for tracking status.

8) After completion of internal quality check, UIDAI subscriber will receive an SMS.
