Karnataka by-election might be held along with Bengal elections

There is a possibility of Election Commission of India holding the by-election of 1 Lok Sabha seat and 3 Assembly constituencies of Karnataka along with the West Bengal Assembly Elections.

By-elections are due in the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency and Basava Kalyana, Maski and Sindagi Assembly segments. As per the rules, pending by-election should be held within 6 months of the seat falling vacant.

Why by-election.?

Belagavi Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after Union Minister Suresh Angadi died of Covid-19 in September 2020.

Basava Kalyana Assembly constituency fell vacant after Congress MLA B Narayan Rao died of Covid-19 in September 2020.

Maski Assembly constituency fell vacant due to defection of disqualified Congress MLA Pratap Gouda Patil to BJP in 2019.

Sindagi Assembly constituency fell vacant after the demise of sitting JD(S) MLA MC Managuli.

When will the elections be held.?

According to the sources, Election Commission of India might conduct by-polls with the elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. These polls might be conducted in April-May.
