Fresh details have emerged in the investigation into the recovery of a mobile phone and pen drive from the jail cell of former MP Prajwal Revanna. According to police sources, the Forensic Science Laboratory report has identified a substantial amount of digital material from both devices.
Investigators reportedly found 173 files on the mobile phone. The data is said to include films and web series in Kannada, Hindi and English, along with other video files. More than 100 videos were also reportedly found on the pen drive.
Police sources have further claimed that some of the material stored on the pen drive was objectionable in nature. The digital contents are being examined as part of the wider investigation into how the devices reached the jail cell and how they were used.
The recovery has also raised questions about the alleged supply of the mobile phone inside Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. Investigators are looking into the possible involvement of a jail warder and the person who allegedly arranged the device.
According to the investigation being reported, a person identified as Tousif, who is an accused in the DJ Halli violence case, allegedly handed over the mobile phone to a jail warder. Police are examining whether the device subsequently reached Prajwal Revanna through the warder.
The exact circumstances surrounding the movement of the phone into the prison remain part of the investigation. Police are trying to establish who supplied it, who helped take it inside and whether other people were involved.
Call records have also become an important part of the case. Investigators reportedly found that calls were made from the mobile phone while Prajwal Revanna was in jail. Police sources have claimed that some women were contacted through regular calls, video calls and WhatsApp calls.
Investigators are now examining the complete call history and digital data from the device. Depending on the findings, people who received calls from the phone could be questioned as part of the investigation.
Reports also indicate that calls were made to members of Prajwal Revanna family and his legal representatives. Investigators are examining the details of these conversations along with calls involving other individuals.
The police are not limiting their examination to the mobile phone. The pen drive and its contents are also being studied, with digital evidence being collected for further investigation. Material considered relevant to other cases may also be shared with the Special Investigation Team for examination.
The presence of a television inside the jail cell has also come under scrutiny. Investigators are looking into reports that videos were watched through the television and are examining whether there is any connection between the television usage and the digital material recovered from the devices.
The latest FSL findings could therefore provide investigators with more information about the activities associated with the phone and pen drive. However, the discovery of files or call records by itself does not establish criminal wrongdoing by every person whose name or number may appear in the data.
Police are expected to compare the forensic findings with call records, device information, witness statements and other evidence before reaching conclusions about the case.
The investigation is also focused on the jail security system. If the allegation that a mobile phone was supplied to an inmate through prison personnel is established, authorities could face questions about how the device entered the facility and whether existing security procedures were bypassed.
The case has attracted attention because mobile phone access inside a high security prison can raise serious questions about security and monitoring. Investigators are therefore looking beyond the contents of the device and trying to trace the entire chain through which it allegedly reached the inmate.
For now, Parappana Agrahara police are continuing their investigation based on the FSL report and other evidence. Further questioning and analysis of the call records could determine whether additional people are brought into the inquiry.
