New Delhi: India on Thursday reported more than 400,000 coronavirus infections over the last 24 hours, while deaths rose by a record 3,980. The country’s tally has surged past 2.1 crore-mark, boosted by the record 412,262 new case.
India is second only to the United States in the total number of cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic. Vaccines will need to be updated to tackle the new strains that are spreading the contagion fast, the government’s top scientific adviser said.
Adding that the current surge in infections seems to be because of the Indian “double mutant” coronavirus and the spread of the UK variant has slowed.
