A Dharwad High Court bench has upheld the government’s order to raise the retirement age of private sector employees from 58 years to 60 years. High Court gives good news to state private employees. This means that the retirement age of private employees will be increased.
Accordingly, the Government had ordered to increase the retirement age of the private sector employees according to the amended rules of the Karnataka Industrial Employment Standing Orders. Harihara’s Grasim Industries Company challenged this order of the state government and approached the High Court.
The petition filed by the company was dismissed by a single member Dharwad High Court bench on September 17, 2021. An appeal was again filed against this dismissal order. A division bench of the High Court held a lengthy hearing in this regard and upheld the government’s order.
It has also directed the appellants that those who retired on or after 17th March 2018 and completed 59 years of age should be reimbursed 50% of their salary for the period between the date of retirement and the date of attaining 60 years of age.
