Corona cases rise start third wave fear, schools and colleges closed till 12 January

School College closed Corona cases rises in India fear starts for corona third wave. Haryana’s COVID-19 cases have witnessed a sharp surge with the state detecting fresh Omicron cases over the last few days. Schools and colleges have now been closed in Haryana as the government announced new restrictions amid rising cases along with ‘Mahamari Alert.’

Haryana Schools and colleges reopened from quite some time as the state had reported a significant downtrend in COVID-19 cases. Initially, there was also a proposal of resuming offline classes with 100% capacity from December 1, 2021. However, since the fear of Omicron spread, this idea was halted and offline classes continued with 50% capacity. As per the revised guidelines issued on January 1, 2022, Haryana schools and colleges have been closed from today January 2, 2022.

The official order reads, “School, Colleges, Polytechnics, ITs, Coaching institutions, Libraries and Training Institutes (whether Government or private), Anganwadi Centers and Creches under Woman and Child development Department shall remain closed in the State.” While some restrictions apply to only a few districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat, others apply to the entire state.

After witnessing a massive spike in COVID infections, these districts would also have to comply with a semi-lockdown like situation, in which many activities have been restricted to 50% capacity, while malls and markets are allowed to open only till 5 pm. Haryana government has also said that only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to enter or roam in most public places. With new vaccination scheme rolling out for children, this rule is applicable to everyone over 15 years of age and not 18.

Haryana schools and colleges are likely to resume offline classes after January 12, 2022. While it is likely that this resumption would largely be dependent on the COVID-19 and Omicron situation in the state, there is also a possibility of controlling the spread of infections if everyone follows COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

India saw a single-day rise of 27,553 new coronavirus cases while the Omicron infection tally reached 1,525, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.  Of the 1,525 patients infected with the Omicron variant of the virus so far, 560 have either recuperated or migrated, according to the ministry’s data updated at 8 am.

The daily active case count rose to 18,020 while 284 deaths were recorded due to Covid-19 in a day. The fresh cases raised India’s tally of Covid-19 cases to 34,889,132, while the active cases increased to 1,22,801, according to the latest data. The death toll from the pandemic climbed to 4,81,770 while the cumulative recoveries have increased to 3,42,84,561.
