Bulawayo: The Pakistan cricket team has once again become the subject of global ridicule—this time not for off-field controversies but for an embarrassing on-field display.
Known for grabbing headlines for the wrong reasons in recent times, Pakistan found itself heavily trolled after a shocking fielding lapse during their match against India in Bulawayo.
The incident occurred during the India vs Pakistan encounter where Pakistan handed young Indian batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi two lifelines in a single delivery. The moment quickly went viral on social media, with fans mocking Pakistan’s poor fielding standards.
Earlier, Pakistan had been in the news for creating confusion over participation in the ICC T20 World Cup. After initially raising objections and making contradictory statements, they eventually announced their squad fearing possible sanctions from the ICC. However, their latest embarrassment came purely from their performance on the field.
During the match, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was batting aggressively, hitting two boundaries in the fourth over and following it up with a boundary and a six in the seventh over. But the drama unfolded in the eighth over bowled by Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Mohammad Sayam.
On the third ball of the over, Vaibhav attempted a pull shot and mistimed it high into the air towards mid-wicket. Fielder Huzaifa Ahsan ran in and had an easy chance to take the catch—but shockingly dropped it. That was only the beginning of Pakistan’s misery.
As confusion erupted between the two Indian batsmen over taking a run, Vaibhav should have been run out easily. Ahsan quickly picked up the ball and threw it towards the stumps. However, there was no wicketkeeper at the end to collect the throw, and once again the batsman survived. Two clear dismissal opportunities were wasted in the space of a few seconds.
The embarrassing sequence left spectators in the stadium laughing, while cricket fans on social media brutally trolled the Pakistan team for their lack of coordination and poor game awareness. Videos of the incident spread rapidly, adding to Pakistan’s growing list of cricketing bloopers.
Ironically, the lifelines did not help Vaibhav much. On the very next delivery, he attempted a similar shot and was caught behind by the wicketkeeper, departing for 30 runs.
Despite getting three chances, the young Indian batsman could not capitalize—but Pakistan’s fielding fiasco ended up stealing the spotlight and turning them into the butt of jokes once again.
