Union Minister Narayan Rane was arrested by the police at around 2.25pm on Tuesday for threatening to slap Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Rane is currently touring the state for the BJP’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ from Mumbai to Sindhudurg and the comments were made came during a rally in Chiplun, Ratnagiri district, on Monday night.
Commenting on his remarks, Rane, however, said: “I have not done any offence. If someone defames me, I will file cases against them,” the Union minister reacted.
Earlier, amid protests across Maharashtra over Rane’s remarks, former CM Devendra Fadnavis said that the Bharatiya Janata Party does not support Union minister’s comment.
The statement came after activists of the Shiv Sena’s youth wing and the BJP clashed with each other near Rane’s residence in Mumbai.
